I obtained a Bachelors degree in Microbiology from the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk Jayhawk), hold an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) designation, a Childbirth Educators certification through Lamaze, Birth Doula certification through DONA International. I am Postpartum Doula trained from DONA International and The Happiest Baby on the Block trained by Dr. Harvey Karp. I am thrilled to be one of the first instructors in the program! I earned my DONA International Certified Birth Doula Trainer certification through Bastry University, training under Penny Simkin at the Simkin Center. I was accepted and attended the train the trainer for Baby Behavior conference given by the Human Lactation Center at UC Davis. I am excited to share this information to our area health departments, local WIC agencies and of course my families.

In April of 2019 I was accepted to train for the Institute for Advancement of Breastfeeding and Lactation Education (iABLE) as a trainer. Currently, in partnership with the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition, created breastfeeding curriculum and course development to teach Breastfeeding 101 The Basics and Breastfeeding 201 Building on the Basics to providers in the state of Kansas. And currently I am training the new WIC USDA Breastfeeding 40-hour curriculum to all Kansas WIC staff (and other states!) Most recently, I earned my End of Life Doula Certification and National End of Life Doula Alliance Proficiency Badge with a focus on perinatal loss.

I have taught childbirth, breastfeeding and parenting to over 10,000 families in both private and hospital settings.  And have had the pleasure of welcoming over 575 babies into the world thus far.  Experiences include first time to fifth time moms, twins, unmedicated, epidurals, high blood pressure, Eclampsia, HELLP, Gestational Diabetes, Diabetes, blood disorders, previous back surgeries, suspected/unsuspected abnormalities, prenatal loss and still, loss of a spouse, inductions, VBACS/VBA2C, cesareans, preterm, precipitous and prodromal labors and much more. This experience and wisdom is invaluable as an educator, birth doula and birth doula trainer.

I have a partnership with Women's Health Associates (20 years so far), referrals from various OB's/CNM in the area and previously wrote curriculum and taught childbirth, natural strategies, breastfeeding, newborn care and adoption classes for Shawnee Mission Medical Center for 8 years.  I have done births at almost all metro hospitals.  I am the past DONA International State Representative for Kansas.  I currently work for the Johnson County WIC agency as a Breastfeeding Counselor/IBCLC.  I was a TA for Barton County Community College in Biology.  I am currently teaching a monthly online breastfeeding class for childcare professionals for the KS Breastfeeding Coalition through KCCTO and Director of Education and Lead Trainer for the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition.

I was voted Best Doula 2019 through iFamilyKC!  (Thank you for all that voted--Such a fun surprise!)

And won 2021 Best of Olathe Awards for Educational Consultant, 2022 and 2023 Community Votes Olathe Platinum Award Doula and Platinum Lactation Consultant, 2022 Expertise Best Doulas Independence.

I am a member of Doulas of Greater Kansas City, United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA), Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition and a founding member of the Johnson County Breastfeeding Coalition. I also provide end of life education and support for the Trixie Lou Project--providing photography and support services for those with a life altering diagnosis.
I attend a variety of conferences and meetings to stay current on recent developments regarding pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding; as well as subscribe to a variety of professional journals.  I was chosen to poster present at the LAMAZE & DONA Confluence Conference in 2015 on the topic of Vaccine Safety Misconceptions Resulting in Alternative Vaccine Schedule Use and appeared on KCUR National Public Radio.  Hear the podcast HERE.

I am available to give lectures, informational speeches and seminars to interested clubs, organizations, (ie. MOPS) etc.  Topics include Postpartum Support, Processing our Births, Postpartum Mood Disorders, Breastfeeding, etc.  Please contact me for more information.

I am up to date on all vaccines and boosters, including the flu and Covid-19 vaccine. I run my antibody titers as needed to protect you and your family.

I will provide you ideas, information and inspiration to create your birthing experience.  I want to help you become lifetime advocates for your family. I would love to visit with your about upcoming birth!

2020 Rebrand

To celebrate 500 babies and 15 years I decided it was time for a fresh new look in both logo and website.

And while I still love my original logo of the abstract women coming together in support, I wanted to simplify my logo and brand.

I kept coming back to the 3 waves.  So simple.  Yet so meaningful.  Waves are simultaneously peaceful and calm and powerful.  Breath flows like waves.  Contractions flow like waves.  Breastmilk flows like waves.

And 3 waves is a flood sign!  Ha!  I hope you love my new look as much as I do!
